Intoxication can make cells sick: V.P. Gangadharan
Cancer expert Dr. V.P. Gangadharan warned students about the severe health risks of smoking, alcohol, and drug use, noting their role in DNA damage and lung cancer. The talk was part of a medical awareness program at Jubilee Mission Medical College Hospital.

Smoking, alcohol and drug use can cause changes in DNA and make cells diseased, renowned cancer treatment expert V.P. Gangadharan pointed out.
“Tobacco and smoking are responsible for 80% of lung cancer. Intoxication can weaken the ability of immune cells to grow,” he said.
He was speaking at the ‘Catch Them Young’ programme, organised by the Jubilee Mission Medical College Hospital’s Research department to instil an interest in medicine and research among students on the occasion of the hospital’s platinum jubilee.
More than 100 students selected from 50 schools, along with their teachers and parents, participated in the programme.
