International training programme on teak planting material production, nursery techniques at KFRI
The Kerala Forest Research Institute is hosting an international training program focused on advanced teak nursery techniques and genomics. The event aims to integrate traditional forestry knowledge with modern genetic technologies to promote sustainable teak plantation management.
Why it matters
Advancements in forestry technology are essential for the long-term viability of the timber industry and ecological conservation.
The Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), Peechi, Thrissur, is organising a four-day international training programme on “Advanced Training on Teak Planting Material Production, Nursery Techniques and Genomics.”
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO), and the International Teak Information Network (TEAKNET) are supporting the programme, bringing together experts and practitioners to share recent developments, practical experiences, and emerging technologies in the teak sector.
KFRI director Kannan C. S. Warrier, who addressed the event, said the training would provide an opportunity to integrate traditional teak nursery techniques with modern genetic and genomic technologies. He added that the training would also help develop sustainable and productive teak plantations through the production of high-quality planting materials and scientific management.
