International Coffee Day: GCC eye global markets for Araku coffee

The Girijan Cooperative Corporation celebrated International Coffee Day by promoting Araku coffee in Visakhapatnam. Officials are actively seeking to expand the global market presence for tribal-grown coffee from the Araku Valley.
Why it matters
Expanding international market access for tribal farmers is a key economic development strategy for the region's agricultural sector.
The Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) organised a special programme at its Arabica Araku Valley Coffee Café at East Point Colony in Visakhapatnam on the occasion of International Coffee Day, serving free Araku coffee to customers.
GCC chairman Kidari Sravan Kumar said that the corporation was working to secure wider international recognition and expand markets for coffee produced by tribal farmers in the Araku Valley.
He said: “The State government is extending support to promote Araku coffee internationally. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mention of Araku coffee in his Mann Ki Baat programme has helped increase its recognition across the country.”
Mr. Sravan Kumar thanked Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and Tribal Welfare Minister Gummidi Sandhyarani for supporting efforts to promote Araku coffee globally.
