International Coffee Day: ASR district eyes better returns for coffee growers

The 12th International Coffee Day was celebrated in Alluri Sitarama Raju district on Thursday, with a focus on improving coffee productivity and quality, expanding market opportunities and enhancing the incomes of tribal farmers.
District Collector T. Nishanthi, who attended the programme as the chief guest, stressed the need for scientific cultivation, farm-to-cup traceability, stronger market linkages and support for organic cultivation and certification.
She said the district had about 1,07,374.89 hectares under coffee cultivation, including 1,07,139.70 hectares of Arabica and 235.19 hectares of Robusta. The district produces about 15,200 metric tonnes of coffee annually, with average productivity of 172 kg a hectare, according to the district administration.
