Inspection drive finds unauthorised changes to four firearms

A month-long special inspection drive of firearms conducted by Udupi police in the district has revealed unauthorised modifications to four firearms, according to Hariram Shankar, Superintendent of Police, Udupi district.
A total of 2,925 firearms were inspected during the drive. These included 1,759 single-barrel muzzle-loading guns (SBML), 554 single-barrel breech-loading guns (SBBL), 318 double-barrel breech-loading guns (DBBL), six double-barrel muzzle-loading guns (DBML), 120 pistols, 119 revolvers, 30 rifles, 13 bore guns and six non-permissible bore (NP bore) firearms, he said in a release.
Unauthorised modifications were detected in four firearms during the inspections. Separate cases have been registered against the individuals concerned at Shankaranarayana, Kota, Brahmavar and Karkala Town police stations under Section 25 of the Arms Act, 1959.
The cases are under investigation, he said.
