Inside the 'gold standard' Prestwich care home that could become a template for the UK
The Heathlands Village care home in Prestwich is being highlighted as a 'gold standard' model for social care in the UK. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has cited the facility as an example of the integration needed between health and social care services.

Wind your way between suburban roads of Prestwich and the rolling hillocks of its golf club and you'll find yourself in a village within the village. Up a leafy avenue, with its rear patio basking in the late July sunshine, Heathlands Village looks more like a European ski resort than a care home. With origins reaching back to the 1860s, when Manchester’s Jewish community began establishing charities and homes for the community's elderly, this purpose-built facility run by the Federation of Jewish Services can now accommodate more than 100 people in residential, nursing and end-of-life accommodation.
