The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a political pressure group aligned with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), has launched a nationwide mobilisation drive to collect 25 million signatures in support of its national chairman, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as its preferred candidate for the presidency in the 2031 General Election.
The drive, which is part of efforts by Gen Kainerugaba’s supporters to position him to succeed his father, President Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, comes at a time when Opposition forces continue to navigate severe legal and political hurdles following the 2026 polls.
