Insecurity, Hardship: Learn Empathy From Macron, ADC Tells Tinubu

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for his perceived lack of empathy regarding national insecurity and economic hardship. The party urged Tinubu to emulate French President Emmanuel Macron, who postponed a state visit to Nigeria to address domestic unrest in France.
Why it matters
This highlights the political pressure on the Nigerian administration to address internal stability and the symbolic use of international diplomatic decisions to critique domestic leadership.
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what it described as his lack of empathy for Nigerians facing insecurity, hunger and economic hardship, urging him to learn lessons in responsive leadership from French President Emmanuel Macron.
The council’s reaction follows reports that Macron postponed his scheduled state visit to Nigeria, initially planned for October 28–29, 2026, amid domestic challenges in France.
The proposed visit, which was also expected to include the France-Nigeria Business Forum in Lagos, was reportedly rescheduled for early 2027.
According to a statement by the director of media and publicity of ADC-PCC, Kola Ologbodiyan, the reported decision underscores the importance of a leader’s responsibility to remain attentive to pressing domestic concerns.
“A president will not travel when his home is contending with internal combustion,” a Nigerian official familiar with the development was quoted as saying.
