Inquiry on into HR&CE dept. irregularities, says Minister Ramesh

The HR&CE Minister has announced an inquiry into alleged corruption and property misuse within the department during the previous DMK regime. The government plans to form committees to protect temple assets and investigate these irregularities.
Why it matters
This investigation highlights ongoing political tensions and efforts to address historical administrative corruption in Tamil Nadu's religious institutions.
Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister Ramesh on Monday said inquiries were under way into allegations of corrupt practices during the erstwhile DMK regime in his department.
Mr. Ramesh told reporters that inquiries were on to ascertain how the properties of temples were “usurped” and misused at several places. Inquiries were also on to identify those involved in such wrong doings, the Minister said and added that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government was committed to eliminating corruption in the department. Committees would soon be formed to protect the properties of each temple and probe the irregularities, he said.
