Inquiry at Kadayanallur Government Hospital into snakebite death

Health authorities in Tamil Nadu are investigating allegations of medical negligence following the death of a snakebite victim at Kadayanallur Government Hospital. Family members claim the patient did not receive timely or adequate treatment.
Why it matters
The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding public healthcare infrastructure and accountability in regional hospitals.
The Joint Director of Health Services, Virudhunagar, on Monday conducted an inquiry into the alleged medical negligence that caused the death of a snakebite victim on Saturday.
After 66-year-old snacks vendor S. Sudarmani suffered snakebite on Saturday morning, he was rushed to the Kadayanallur Government Hospital where he succumbed to the venom.
As the family members of Sudarmani accused the nurses and the doctors of Kadayanallur Government Hospital of not giving him immediate and proper treatment, the public gathered in large numbers in the hopsital that triggered tension.
Following this development, Joint Director of Health Services, Tenkasi, Premalatha visited the Kadayanallur Government Hospital and issued memos to the nurses and the doctor on duty asking them to give their explanation for the alleged “wilful medical negligence”.
