Injury concerns rise for Sri Lanka after defeat in Galle
Sri Lanka's cricket team faces significant injury setbacks following their loss to India in the first Test in Galle. Coach Kirsten views the absence of key players as an opportunity for younger talent to prove themselves in the upcoming series decider.
Why it matters
The team's ability to adapt to injuries will determine their performance in the ICC World Test Championship series.
Following their 165-run loss in the first Test in Galle in the [ICC World Test Championship](https://www.icc-cricket.com/tournaments/world-test-championship) series against India, Sri Lanka find themselves needing to bounce back in the second Test to level the series with India.
The daunting task will also have to be done without the play and direction of some big names.
"Kusal Mendis has got a proper hamstring injury. He's not going to be available for a while. Pathum Nissanka as well, and Dinesh (Chandimal) are also not available for the next Test," Kirsten stated in his post-match press conference.
However, he added, there's a silver lining for Sri Lanka ahead of the series decider.
"So, we're missing a few guys from that perspective, but it creates a great opportunity for young players to come in and stake their claim.
