Influenza and covid vaccines available this week

Local health officials are encouraging residents to book influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations as the flu season begins. Pharmacists advise that while vaccines help prevent severe illness, they are not a cure for the common cold, which should be managed with rest and hydration.
Why it matters
Public health initiatives regarding seasonal vaccinations are critical for reducing hospitalizations and managing community health during peak virus months.
Vaccines are due to be available this week through doctors or pharmacists and can be booked online at the “Time for the shot” website. Influenza got an early start here with at least 16 cases confirmed as of last week. On Bayfm’s “Ask the Pharmacist” Janice Audeau of Family Pharmachoice said they offer vaccine clinics twice a week and any vaccine takes about two weeks to become fully effective.
