CHANDIGARH: Social media influencer Manjeet Kaur, 28, was nearly seven weeks pregnant when she died in hospital after allegedly being abducted from Chandigarh and set on fire in Morinda, according to her autopsy report.Kaur died during treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh on August 26, nearly two months after she suffered severe burn injuries.Police are now trying to trace and arrest two suspects, identified in the FIR as Shubhi and Pinda. They have been booked for kidnapping and murder following a complaint by Kaur’s mother, Kanta Devi.According to the complaint, Shubhi and Pinda, who were acquaintances of Kaur, called her to Sector 34 in Chandigarh on the intervening night of July 3 and 4.They allegedly assaulted her, forced her into a vehicle and took her to a forested area near Morinda, where she was allegedly tied to a tree and set on fire.Another acquaintance who reached the spot later managed to put out the flames using a blanket, police said.Kaur was initially taken to a hospital in Morinda before being shifted to Max Hospital in Mohali. She was later admitted to PGIMER, where she remained under treatment until her death.The case has also raised questions over an alleged delay in recording Kaur’s statement.Sources said Kaur regained consciousness during her treatment and sought to have her statement recorded. The PGIMER police post reportedly informed Kharar Sadar police that she was conscious and in a condition to give a statement.The information was also conveyed to the investigating officer, but he allegedly did not reach the hospital, sources said.A daily diary report (DDR) was reportedly recorded at the PGIMER police post regarding the communication.After Kaur died on August 26, the PGIMER police post again informed Kharar Sadar police.
