Infection affects dozens of children in Salaspils kindergarten, Latvia

The SPKC has currently received reports of 71 cases (64 children, 7 adults); all kindergarten groups have been affected, and no one has been hospitalised. The information has been passed on to the PVD and GPs, whilst the SPKC is organising laboratory tests and liaising with GPs. Information has been received regarding two confirmed cases of norovirus. The SPKC is continuing its epidemiological investigation. Evita Beļska, head of the “Jāņtārpiņš” nursery, said that the first symptoms appeared as early as the afternoon of Tuesday, 22 September, when several children began vomiting. Beļska said: “Yesterday afternoon, some children started vomiting. From yesterday afternoon until today, there have been several – many – cases of illness. Some parents have also taken their children to hospital with symptoms of illness. We have now contacted the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and an epidemiological investigation is underway.
