The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kerala chapter has demanded that the Maharashtra government withdraw its decision to allow homoeopathy doctors to practise modern medicine after completing a short-term pharmacology course.
The demand was raised at the 288th State working committee meeting of the IMA Kerala in Palakkad on Sunday (August 16, 2026).
IMA Kerala president M.N. Menon and secretary Roy R. Chandran said a short-term pharmacology course could not replace the comprehensive medical education and clinical training required to practise modern medicine. They said the decision could compromise patient safety and the quality of treatment.
They said registration to practise modern medicine should be based on recognised medical education and the required clinical training, with no compromise on patient safety.
