In a night maritime search and rescue operation on Monday, six fishermen were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) off the Mamallapuram coast. After a distress call was received around 10 p.m., the ICGS Sujay , which was on patrol, was deputed to locate the fishing boat.
“The boat was approximately 15 km northeast off Mamallapuram and had sustained critical hull damage, resulting in flooding of the machinery compartment, thus posing a threat to the lives of all six crew members,” a release from the Union Ministry of Defence said.
