India, Switzerland identify areas of cooperation in defence, nuclear energy: PM Modi

India and Switzerland have identified new opportunities for cooperation in areas of defence and nuclear cooperation in nuclear energy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said following a bilateral meeting with Swiss President Guy Parmelin in New Delhi on Monday (October 5, 2026).
The two sides signed several agreements on Monday (October 5), including one on mobility that would see longer visa durations and student permits.
Mr. Paremelin began a three-day visit to India on Monday (October 5) to commemorate the first anniversary of the coming into force of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the four-country European Free Trade Association (EFTA). The TEPA entered into force on October 1, 2025.
“Today, we identified new opportunities for cooperation in military exchanges and defence production,” Mr. Modi said in a statement following the meeting. “We also agreed to further deepen cooperation in nuclear energy.”
