India’s Russian crude binge to continue after Trump waives new sanctions law

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued an executive order waiving sanctions and tariffs on major importers of Russian crude oil, including India. This decision allows Indian refiners to continue purchasing Russian oil at current levels, avoiding the 100% tariffs mandated by the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026.
Why it matters
The waiver ensures the stability of global energy markets and prevents a significant disruption to India's energy supply chain, which has become heavily reliant on discounted Russian crude since 2022.
