US ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Friday announced that India plans to buy the battle-tested Javelin anti-tank missile system from the United States, describing the move as a major step forward in the defence relationship between the two countries.Gor said the proposed acquisition could also open the door to co-production opportunities between Indian and US defence industries.The announcement came as the Indian Army signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LoA) for the Javelin system through the US Foreign Military Sales process, according to the US Embassy in India.
