India Restores Visa Services for Ugandans

KAMPALA, Uganda: India has restored visa services for Ugandan nationals, reopening a major travel channel for medical patients, students and businesses after restrictions imposed during Uganda’s Ebola outbreak disrupted travel between the two countries.

Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Adonia Ayebare said India had resumed both e-Visa and regular visa services following diplomatic engagement between Kampala and New Delhi.

“I am happy to announce that the friendly Government of India has decided to resume all visa services, both e-Visa and Regular Visa, for the nationals of Uganda,” Ayebare said recently.

The Indian High Commission in Kampala confirmed that applications are again available through its online portals.

The mission said, however, that a backlog of applications had accumulated during the suspension and that diplomatic and official visas, government officials travelling on official business, medical visas and scholarship student visas would be handled on a priority basis.
