IMD predicts heavy rainfall in 5 districts, Yanam today
The India Meteorological Department has issued heavy rainfall warnings for several districts in Andhra Pradesh and Yanam due to a developing low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. A low pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-north Odisha coasts is very likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a depression within the next 12 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
According to the Cyclone Warning Centre, Visakhapatnam, the system, aided by an upper air cyclonic circulation, had first formed at 5.30 a.m., strengthened into a well-marked low pressure area by 2.30 p.m., and continued to persist over the same region at 5.30 p.m.
