The August 10, 2027, general election is less than a year away and political parties face a cascade of statutory deadlines that began in October this year.

That’s when they were required to submit authorised leadership lists by the 15th and certify nomination rules by the 30th of that month.

The G azette notice published on August 20, under Article 88(4), has compressed party housekeeping into a six-week window, with membership lists due next March and all primaries required to conclude by May 8 next year.

As political outfits are organising well ahead of newly gazetted deadlines, anxieties are mounting about protecting civil liberties, political rights and equitable representation.
