Illegal transporting of minerals: Collector, SP visit check posts on Kanniyakumari – Kerala border

Amid allegations that trucks were illegally transporting minerals to Kerala through check-posts on the Kanniyakumari-Kerala border with the connivance of officials and the police, Kanniyakumari Collector M. Prathap visited some of the check-posts on Monday night.
After checking the records maintained at the check-posts, the Collector instructed the police and government officials deployed there to impound vehicles illegally transporting cargo, including minerals, and overloaded vehicles.
“Besides impounding these vehicles, cases should be registered under appropriate sections against the owners and drivers. Once the first information report is registered, both the owners and drivers should be arrested,” Mr. Prathap said. He also appealed to the public to inform the district administration about illegal transportation of minerals.
