Why it matters
Highlights the influence of elite athletes on the development of emerging players in professional sports.
Everton striker Thierno Barry has revealed that studying footage of Manchester City talisman Erling Haaland has inspired his prolific start to the campaign after sinking Coventry City 3-1 on Friday. The 24-year-old netted twice and provided a late assist to ruin former Toffees manager Frank Lampard's return to Merseyside.
Barry's quickfire double inside five second-half minutes turned the game around before he teed up Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's 81st-minute strike on David Moyes' landmark 592nd match as Everton boss , equalling Harry Catterick's club record. Having required 16 outings to open his account last season following a £27 million switch from Villarreal before finishing with eight goals, the striker now boasts 10 in 13 appearances across all competitions. His six top-flight strikes leave him tied second with Liverpool's Alexander Isak, three behind Haaland .
