Before last month, I had never visited Washington, DC , despite having long wanted to. So, during a train trip layover on June 19, I took advantage of a couple of extra hours in the city to explore some of the nation's most historically important institutions. But beyond seeing historic buildings , I walked away with a uniquely current view of the nation's capital.
