I’ll Reopen Nigeria’s Borders With Chad, Niger, Benin, Cameroon, Develop Southern Ports -Atiku

He said the closure of the borders had affected young Nigerians engaged in transborder trade, particularly those operating businesses across Nigeria’s neighbouring countries.

African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has pledged to reopen Nigeria’s land borders with Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin Republic if elected president, saying the closures have disrupted legitimate cross-border trade and affected businesses in border communities.

Atiku made the pledge while addressing supporters in a viral video.

He said the policy would also include the development of ports in the South and South-East to improve the movement of goods across the country.

“The Northern states is bordering Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Benin Republic. And you close all those borders,” he said.

“All our young men who are doing trading between these countries, they carry goods across, they do this and that, all what we call transborder trade is a legitimate business.”
