The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday (September 5, 2026) attacked the Congress over the representation of women in its State governments, alleging “hypocrisy” on the issue of women’s empowerment.
At a press conference, BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said the Congress was in power in four States, but had only three women Ministers. In Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, there were no women Ministers, while Kerala had two and Telangana had two, one of whom had been removed.
Mr. Trivedi said the figures exposed what he called the Congress’ “hypocrisy”. He said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had earlier written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking implementation of women’s reservation without waiting for delimitation, even as its own State governments did not reflect the same commitment.
