Why it matters
The use of fraudulent license plates undermines traffic enforcement and poses security risks, necessitating strict regulatory oversight.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police have registered six criminal cases and seized multiple vehicles as part of a special enforcement drive against the use of fake, tampered and unauthorised vehicle registration number plates, following a surge in complaints from citizens.
The cases were registered over the past week against motorists allegedly using fraudulent registration plates to conceal the identity of their vehicles, evade traffic enforcement and violate provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and other applicable laws.
The cases were booked under the jurisdictions of Jubilee Hills, Malakpet, Begum Bazar, Abids and Kachiguda police stations. Officials said multiple vehicles bearing fake or manipulated registration plates were identified and seized during the operation.
