Telangana DGP C.V. Anand has directed several police units to improve their implementation of new criminal laws following a performance review. The state is focusing on enhancing investigation standards, technology adoption, and case disposal rates to improve its national ranking.
Why it matters
Effective implementation of new criminal laws is critical for judicial reform and improving the efficiency of the criminal justice system in India.
The Hyderabad, Malkajgiri, Nizamabad and Karimnagar Police Commissionerates have been directed to improve their performance in implementing the new criminal laws. Telangana Director General of Police C. V. Anand flagged shortcomings in investigation standards, case disposal and the adoption of technology-driven policing.
At a review meeting held at the Crime Investigation Department (CID) office in Hyderabad on Thursday (October 8), the DGP examined the performance of police units lagging in the State rankings and called for corrective measures to improve Telangana’s standing at the national level.
Telangana currently has a score of 60.15 in the national assessment of the implementation of the new criminal laws. The DGP said improving the performance of individual police units was essential to raising the State’s overall ranking.
