In an effort to create awareness among the public about helmet usage and drug abuse prevention, the Kanniyakumari district police had organised a 10-km and 5-km awareness marathon on Friday.

District Superintendent of Police R. Stalin flagged off the marathon in front of the Ayyan Thiruvalluvar statue silver jubilee arch in Kanniyakumari.

The 10-km men’s race passed through Railway station road, Vivekanandapuram, Pazhathottam, Mahadhanapuram roundabout, Murugan Kundram, Zero Point and the DSP office before concluding at the arch.

Naveen Shaji secured first place in the men’s category and received a cash prize of ₹10,000. Mariya Sarath who finished second, received ₹7,500, while Adarsh who finished third received ₹5,000.

The 5-km women’s race started from the Ayyan Thiruvalluvar statue silver jubilee arch and passed through Railway station road, Vivekanandapuram and Pazhathottam before returning along the same route and finishing at the arch.
