Hundreds of idols of Lord Vinayaka were taken out in procession at various places in Kanniyakumari district on Saturday as part of the Vinayakar Chathurthi celebrations.

The processions began at three major points in the district. One procession started from Nagaraja Temple grounds in Nagercoil and proceeded towards Sothavilai beach. Another procession began at Manavalakurichi and proceeded to Chinnavilai beach, while a third procession started from Alappancode and ended at Tamirabharani river in Kuzhithurai.

The idols were taken out in procession by various Hindu organisations, including Hindu Mahasabha, Hindu Munnani. A large number of youngsters participated in the procession, which were held between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
