Human remains have been discovered in the Goulburn River in Victoria, Australia, six weeks after a local man went missing while fishing. Police believe the remains belong to the missing 53-year-old, though formal identification is pending.

The remains were found in the river at Ghin Ghin, near Ghin Ghin Road, on Sunday, and they have yet to be formally identified.

But police believe they belong to Wilson, 53, whose disappearance sparked a major search after he fell overboard on July 18
In a statement, police said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
The discovery comes after Wilson’s family told nine.com.au they were desperate to bring him home, with his sister Melissa Teague pleading for the search to continue after authorities suspended their efforts.
