In a major catch, the Marine Police in Ramanathapuram district intercepted a goods vehicle and seized 7.5 lakh painkiller pills, valued at ₹75 lakh, on Friday.

One person was arrested and police identified the suspect as Nageswaran.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Nageswaran had allegedly taken the pills in the vehicle towards Vedalai beach from where, it was reportedly planned to be smuggled to Sri Lanka in a waiting fibre boat.

As the police team stopped the vehicle near Mandapam, based on specific inputs, they conducted a search and found the pills stashed in cartons in the rear side.
