HSE initiative aims to combat drug harm at festivals
The Irish Health Service Executive (HSE) is deploying trained volunteers to music festivals to provide harm-reduction information and drug analysis services. This initiative aims to reduce drug-related medical emergencies by offering pragmatic, evidence-based support to attendees.

The HSE is encouraging festival goers to interact with its volunteers at upcoming events, as part of an initiative on reducing harm for people who take substances at events.
Fifty volunteers were trained as part of the HSE's Safer Nightlife programme, which was first introduced in 2022 to reduce drug-related harm.
The HSE will have tents at the upcoming Electric Picnic festival in Co Laois and the District X Festival in Palmerstown, Dublin.
During their training session in Dublin city centre, the volunteers were trained on how to communicate tailored harm-reduction information to people taking substances.
Among the volunteers at the training session were students who came from a medical background, frontline drug workers, nurses, as well as people who do take part in night life.
