British tennis player Harriet Dart won her first WTA Tour-level title at the Guangzhou Open, moving her up to the British number three ranking. Despite her success, she has withdrawn from the upcoming Chennai Open.
Why it matters
This marks a significant career milestone for Dart and shifts the landscape of British women's tennis rankings.
Harriet Dart has just achieved her greatest feat as a professional tennis player.
After 11 years on the circuit, the British player has finally won her first WTA Tour-level title.
Dart produced a stunning comeback effort to down Austrian prodigy Lilli Tagger in Sunday's Guangzhou Open final, triumphing 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 against the fourth seed.
The 30-year-old has become only the sixth British WTA title winner since 2000 .
Dart is now set to shoot up the WTA rankings, overtaking a fellow Briton in the process.
Katie Boulter, who won her fourth WTA title in Ostrava, Czechia, earlier this year, will remain as the British number one following this week's action.
The Briton, who has quickly reclaimed the top spot from Sonay Kartal, will be ranked 49th on the Tour when the rankings are updated on Monday.
