When floodwaters rose around their home on August 26, Prakash and Laxmi Pandey had one thought. It was that the family might not survive. The water from the swollen Trishuli River was already sweeping away vehicles, buildings and belongings around the 40-year-old green-painted house in Nepal’s Nuwakot district. Inside, Prakash and his family were moving higher and higher as the water climbed.“When you feel that this may be the last moment of your life, what can you think? I felt that perhaps our lives were about to end,” Prakash recalled while speaking to The Lallantop. The house, however, survived.Videos from the flood showed the green structure surrounded by a powerful current carrying mud and debris, while buildings and vehicles around it were swept away.
