"That's the million dollar question, right? How do you beat Pete Burling," Team New Zealand skipper Nathan Outteridge said on the eve of the regatta.
Burling has become the leader in the sport having won the Cup three times and beating Team New Zealand in the first Preliminary Regatta in Sardinia in May.
He split from Team New Zealand after defending the Cup in Barcelona in 2024.
Outteridge said they weren't looking too far ahead.
