The Iran-aligned Houthis have reached a key island on the Yemeni coast, further threatening global shipping and oil supplies.
It comes as a US official reports damage to US military aircraft after Iranian strikes on a Jordanian air base amid further tit-for-tat attacks in the Gulf.
US President Donald Trump says he expects the Iran war to end after the November midterm elections, though he has previously set other deadlines for the war to end.
