Houthi attack on small cargo ship in Red Sea kills three crew members, sources say
Suspected Houthi attacks have targeted cargo ships in the Red Sea and near Pakistan, resulting in the first reported fatalities in the region's maritime conflict. These incidents highlight the increasing vulnerability of global shipping routes amid ongoing Middle East tensions.
Why it matters
The escalation of attacks on commercial vessels poses a direct threat to international maritime security and global supply chains.

Four crew members have been killed in a suspected attack by Iran-backed Houthis on a small cargo vessel in the Bab el-Mandeb strait, Yemeni sources said.
The fatalities aboard the Egyptian-owned Tihamah, if confirmed, would be the first deaths in a Houthi strike on shipping since the Iran war began on February 28.
Maritime security sources also said a Panama-flagged container ship has been struck by a missile in an attack off Pakistan while sailing into the Gulf of Oman.
