Horan succeeds McAleese as chair of Integration group

Former GAA president John Horan has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Steering Group on Integration, succeeding Dr. Mary McAleese. The appointment aims to stabilize the integration process between the three associations.
Why it matters
The leadership change is critical for the future of the GAA's organizational structure and the ongoing integration efforts.
Former GAA president John Horan has been announced as the new chairperson of the Steering Group on Integration (SGI), replacing Dr Mary McAleese who recently stepped down from the role.
Former President of Ireland Dr McAleese resigned as chairperson of the SGI last month , stating she was "dubious" that the amalgamation would successfully occur under the GAA's current leadership.
She has now been replaced at the helm of the group by Horan, who served as the 39th president of the GAA.
Separate leadership meetings of the three associations took place earlier this evening when the ratification of Horan as the new head of the SGI was sealed.
A member of the Na Fianna club in Glasnevin, he was the first Dublin-born GAA president in 96 years.
A retired secondary school principal at St Vincent's CBS, Glasnevin, Horan has built a long administrative career within the GAA.
