Honeywell to help build Dangote’s new Kenyan mega-refinery

Honeywell Technologies has been selected to provide engineering and equipment for a new $16 billion oil refinery project in Kenya led by Aliko Dangote. The project aims to supply fuel to East Africa, though it faces legal challenges from local landowners and environmentalists.
Why it matters
This project represents a significant infrastructure investment in East Africa, highlighting the role of international engineering firms in regional energy development.
CAPE TOWN, Sept 30 (Reuters) – Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has selected Honeywell Technologies to provide engineering services, licensing and equipment for a planned new 700,000-barrels-per-day (bpd) refinery in Kenya, the US-based company said on Wednesday.
Dangote and Kenya’s President William Ruto broke ground for the $16 billion project in Kenya’s Lamu county, amid criticism from conservationists and affected landowners who are challenging its construction in court.
Honeywell and Dangote worked together at his Nigerian refinery where the company is helping with upgrades to double the plant’s capacity to 1.4 million bpd.
“Through our long-standing relationship with Dangote, we have developed proven large-train engineering designs that can be applied to the Kenya refinery to significantly reduce time-to-market,” Honeywell Technologies President Rajesh Gattupalli said in a statement.
