Holiday for schools in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi on Tuesday

Authorities in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of India have declared school holidays due to heavy rain alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department. While some institutions will remain closed, the policy varies by district and level of education.
Why it matters
This is a standard public safety measure taken by local governments to protect students during extreme weather events.
With the India Meteorological Department issuing an alert predicting heavy rain across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioners of the two districts have declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday.
In a statement on Monday, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan said anganwadis, government, aided, and unaided primary and high schools (up to Class 10), including residential schools, will remain closed on Tuesday in Mangaluru, Bantwal, Moodbidri, Mulky, and Ullal taluks.
In Belthangady, Puttur, Sullia, and Kadaba taluks, anganwadis, all schools, Pre-University (PU) colleges (up to Class 12), ITIs, and diploma colleges will remain closed. If any institution is found running in violation of the order, necessary penal proceedings will be initiated against it, Mr. Darshan said.
