HIV i-Base | Macaque study eradicates simian HIV (SHIV) with combination treatment in very early infection
A study published in Nature Microbiology suggests that a combination of immune-based therapies and short-term ART successfully eradicated SHIV in young macaques. The treatment was effective even when initiated shortly after infection.

An exciting study published in the journal Nature Microbiology tentatively reports potentially curing SHIV-infected young macaques following very early treatment with a combination of immune-based therapies plus a short course of ART.
These findings are remarkable results because the animals all had confirmed SHIV infection with high viral load following high-dose inoculation and had no detectable infection more than 18 months after stopping ART.
