MANILA, Philippines - The hit historical fantasy series inspired by the books "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo" returns to TV this August, with beloved characters Klay, Fidel, Ibarra and Maria Clara reminding Filipinos about sacrifice and love of country.
GMA-7's afternoon block will see changes with the historical fantasy series "Maria Clara at Ibarra" taking over the pre-primetime slot.
Inspired by the novels of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, the series stars Barbie Forteza, Julie Anne San Jose, David Licauco and Dennis Trillo.
The story follows Klay (Forteza), a Gen Z nursing student who struggles to appreciate the relevance of Rizal's works. After borrowing a copy of "Noli Me Tangere" from her professor, she is mysteriously transported into the world of the novel, where she experiences key moments in Philippine history firsthand.
