The police have registered a case against a group of Hindutva activists for allegedly assaulting two alleged Bangladeshi nationals while purportedly verifying their identity documents in a labourers’ colony in Chokkanahalli village in the Nandagudi Police Station limits.
According to the police, the activists visited the colony on Friday, claiming that several Bangladeshi nationals were living there illegally. During the visit, they allegedly assaulted two individuals, checked their documents and mobile phones, and recorded the entire episode on video, which was later circulated on social media.
The activists also alleged that some undocumented immigrants were paying “protection money” to the police personnel who regularly visited the colony. They claimed to have found contact numbers of certain police personnel in the mobile phones of the detained individuals.
Based on a complaint, the police registered a case of assault against the activists.
