Hindi film stars lend quiet support to protesters

Several prominent Hindi film actors have publicly supported student protesters demanding educational reforms and the resignation of the Education Minister. The protests follow widespread concerns over the integrity of national examinations.
Why it matters
The involvement of high-profile celebrities highlights the growing public pressure on the government regarding educational system accountability.
Away from the long shadow of Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, Hindi film stars have quietly added their glimmer to the voice of protesters at Jantar Mantar and elsewhere.
Even as many big stars have maintained a studied silence, artists like Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Alia Bhatt, Chitrangada Singh, R. Madhavan, Sara Ali Khan and Huma Qureshi have lent support to the youngsters seeking the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
While all of them supported the students, it was veteran actor Raghubir Yadav who hit out at the police for its alleged brutalities, stating: “Those who have worn khaki uniforms and displayed brutality, the entire creation, the entire universe will never forgive them.”
