High temperature warning for 20 counties to kick in at noon
A high-temperature warning has been issued for 20 Irish counties, with temperatures expected to reach up to 30C. Authorities have warned of potential water safety risks, drought, and heat stress during the heatwave.

A HIGH TEMPERATURE warning is in effect for 20 counties, with highs of up to 30C expected in some parts of the west and the midlands.
The warning for counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal, and the entire provinces of Munster and Connacht kicked in at 12pm.
It will remain in place until 6am on Friday.
Met Éireann said maximum temperatures will be over 27C during the daytime. Overnight, there will be minimum temperatures over 15C, it said.
As a result of the heat, there is the potential impact of water safety issues due to the increased use of lakes, beaches and waterways, as well as the potential of forest fires and drought.
The forecaster also warned of heat stress and uncomfortable sleeping conditions.
