Corporation Commissioner Monika Rana, a medical doctor, inaugurated on Friday the HOPE Clinic and Electrophysiology Department with Electroretinography, Electrooculography and Visual Evoked Potential eye testing equipment.

Paediatric Ophthalmologist of Aravind Eye Hospital A. Fathima said many eye diseases affecting children are hereditary and hundreds of genes have been identified as causes for genetic eye disorders. Even when standard eye examination results are inconclusive, genetic testing helps confirm the diagnosis.

This also facilitates counselling for families regarding hereditary risks and assists in family planning.
