Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on September 17 announced the establishment of the Kalyana Karnataka Economy Mission (KKEM) as a Section 8 company (a non-profit organisation registered under the Companies Act) to attract investment and accelerate industrial development in the region. He also announced a Bio Economy Mission in the region to promote processing and value addition of agricultural produce, with focus on toor dal, Kamalapur banana, raisins, and millets grown in Kalyana Karnataka.
The Chief Minister, participating in the 79th Kalyana Karnataka Utsav in Kalaburagi, announced several initiatives focusing on investment, employment, healthcare, urban infrastructure, tourism, and sports for the region. Mr. Shivakumar also announced a special two-year campaign against anaemia and said the programme would focus on screening, prevention, and treatment, particularly among pregnant women, adolescents, and lactating mothers.
