Heavy rain leaves Bengaluru roads, underpasses waterlogged
Heavy rainfall in Bengaluru has caused waterlogging in several key areas, disrupting traffic and flooding underpasses. Local authorities report that cleanup efforts are underway and that long-term drainage improvements are being implemented.
Why it matters
Urban flooding in major tech hubs highlights the challenges of infrastructure management in the face of extreme weather events.
Heavy rains that lashed parts of Bengaluru since October 5 afternoon led to waterlogging in several parts of the city, slowing traffic on stretches, including Laggere, Yeshwantpur, and Hebbal, as well as in parts of south Bengaluru.
Traffic police officials said most instances of waterlogging were cleared overnight, shortly after they were reported, to ensure that the impact of the rain did not spill over into October 6 morning traffic. However, in some areas, water remained stagnant due to the poor condition of roads, and efforts were under way to clear these stretches, officials said.
